Peace Proms

The children from 4th and 5th Class represented our school at the Peace Proms in the RDS on Sunday 2nd February. The children were part of a large choir, joining schools from around Dublin to perform with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland.

The children performed songs across a range of musical genres; pop, dance, music from musicals and some 80s and 90s throwbacks! They choreographed their own dance moves for some of the songs and had great fun singing and dancing.

It was a fantastic event and we are so proud of the children for their wonderful performances!

November and December Activities

The theme for November was ‘Materials’. In Science, we made parachutes out of paper and plastic and tested which material was better at floating to the ground. In Music, we made some homemade instruments from household materials.

In December, we were very lucky to have some parents visit Senior Infants to do workshops. Alma’s mum taught the children all about Hanukkah. Alma and her mum performed a few songs for the class and everyone got to play with dreidels. It was great fun! Later on in the month, Patrick’s mum visited the class and made some yummy hot chocolate with the children. She also showed the children how to make cookies. Afterwards, the children enjoyed their hot chocolate and cookies. What a treat!

October Activities

In October, we completed some thematic learning on ‘Food’. We learnt how to say certain foods as Gaeilge, completed some apple printing to create a pumpkin patch in Visual Arts and played ‘Restaurants’ in the role-play area. We also read  picture books about food and completed some procedural writing on ‘How to Make Rice Krispie Buns’ in English.

In PE, we explored the gymnastics strand. The children in Senior Infants had great balance walking across the beam!

For the last day of term, we dressed up and played some party games. It was a great end to a busy term.

Active Slogan

In October we set about coming up with our active slogan!

We were lucky we had so much interest from all classes in the school and it made our decision very difficult.

The committee decided on a slogan that was catchy, easy to remember and summed up our ethos!

Our slogan was created by Asia in 1st Class and goes like this:

“Every Little Bit Can Get us Fit”

It’s a great slogan as it reminds us that we can do a little bit everyday in the journey towards being more active !

Well done Asia!

Winter Events 2024

We’ve had a flurry of special days in the senior end of the school. 5th class had back to back  trips to a Peace Proms rehearsal along with 4th class, and also went to Dreamscape in Microsoft for a very cool coding workshop. Then 2nd to 5th class rounded off the term with a magical trip to the cinema, thank you to Tony for organising this and for my big coke which absolutely no children were jealous of 😀

Have a wonderful Winter Break everyone!

Eco-House Project in 5th Class

The children in 5th Class have been working hard on a Design and Make project for the last few weeks.

After learning about the eco-village in Cloughjordan, the children drew up plans to build their own eco-houses. Their houses included renewable energy sources such as solar panels, green spaces with plants, vegetable gardens and compost bins and rainwater collection systems to conserve water.

The children worked in small groups to build their houses using recyclable materials. They displayed wonderful teamwork throughout the project!

Here are their finished eco-houses!

Trip to Belgrave Square

This week in 2nd Class we made the most of the beautiful Spring weather and headed off to Belgrave Square. On the way we spotted some signs of Spring such as daffodils that were ready to bloom!

Our favourite part of the park was the playground – check out the pictures below. We’re so lucky to have this amazing resource so close to the school and we hope to return soon!
