Class blog for 1st class

1st Class Update February 2024

We’ve had a great couple months in 1st Class. In English we have been learning all about report and recount writing.  We have been learning our cursive writing and have nearly learned all the letters. In phonics the class have made great progress working on magic e words and have improved a lot using the spelling rule in their writing.

In maths we have covered lots of topics, some which are new for 1st class such as tens and units and subtraction! The boys and girls have done so well with these.

In Gaeilge (Irish) we have explored so many topics and the class have enjoyed learning all the new words and are beginning to using them in sentences. They love the songs and games and even sang one of the songs at assembly for the school!

In SESE (geography, history and science) we have learned about loads of topics such as play, feasts and festivals and weather and space. They even conducted an experiment to test different slope sizes and how fast a toy car can go.

In music we have been exploring rhythm and pulse lately and the class are great at this!

In Learn Together we have looked at a range of core values such as respect and love and kindness. We had a great Healthy Eating Week where the class got to try lots of yummy fruits and vegetables. We have discussed lots of ways to look after our planet and learned our new Green Schools Moto.

We also had a great library trip and look forward to the next one!

Projects in 1st Class

Well done to all the boys and girls in 1st Class for completing such amazing projects and being so confident to present them to their own class and to 2nd Class when they came to see them!

Sports Day 2023

What an amazing day we had last Friday for Sports Day. It was a lovely community event and we loved having parents and guardians there to cheer the children on and share in the fun of the day.

It was a day of sunshine, sports, fun, bubbles and ice-cream! Some of our favourite things here at HTETNS!

Check out this video with a selection of pictures from the day showcasing our amazing students in action.

Creative Schools in HTETNS

We are so lucky at Harcourt Terrace to be partaking in the Creative Schools initiative this year.

We have had a wonderful two weeks enjoying a range of fantastic activities guided by our creative associate Bethan Parkes.

From K-Pop workshops to painting the walls of our school creativity has been flowing all over the school!

We started our Creative Fortnight with a drama workshop with Janine. The children absolutely loved this and so much fun trying out different kinds of drama skills. Each class worked on something different which gave the teachers lots of ideas to share and try out again!

Next we moved on to some visual art with Bethan! We created circles to display in our school lobby, we experimented with types of painting, explored different materials, we worked with geometric shapes, and got to work painting the walls of our school making it bright and beautiful.

The next time you visit our school keep your eyes peeled for some of this beautiful art around the building!

Our next creative activity was a K-pop workshop with Orna. This was something new for a lot of our students and they absolutely loved it. It was so much fun moving to the music and expressing ourselves through dance!

1st, 2nd and 3rd class also got to experiment with different instruments thanks to David who ran a workshop for our students with some of his own musical instruments.

Finally, we worked on our whole school project of creating bunting to display in our school. Each child in our school created their own individual piece which will be all tied together to represent our unique and individual school community. The children really enjoyed working with fabric and decorating their piece however they liked.

We ended the two weeks with a special performance from the Army Band. We got to learn about all the different instruments in the band and listen, sing and dance to some amazing music.

What a wonderful two weeks of music, dance, art and creative expression we have had! We are very thankful to be a part of this initiative and a special thank you to our Creative Associate Bethan and Ronnie and Siobhán who have facilitated and supported the organisation of these amazing experiences.

Healthy Eating Week 2023

We had a great Healthy Eating Week in Harcourt Terrace. It was super to see how healthy all the boys and girls are already. They all know so much about how important it is to eat healthily to have healthy bodies.

There were lots of different activities in all the classes such as creating a healthy plate of food and lunch box, sorting healthy and unhealthy food and showing off their healthy lunches.

Check out the photos below of just some of the activities that took place.

Winter Show Performance 2022

On Wednesday 14th of December the children of Harcourt Terrace ETNS all performed on stage for the whole-school community. Check out how they got on in this short video. I think you will agree that they all look amazing. Well done to Hyeguen who captured all of these fantastic pictures and compiled this wonderful video. A big shout out to our PGTA, bakers, staff, children, parental community and wider community who contributed to us raising €2,003.37 towards new literacy resources on the day too through our bake sale and raffle. Maith sibh!

Science Week 2022

We had a very exciting Science Week this year in HTETNS. Every class did so many different and fun experiments! There were so many photos we had to make a video to show them all. In it you’ll see some of the experiments that went on  in the school during the week, such as, Skittles experiments, making moon sand, blowing a bubble in a bubble and many more! Some classes even had a special visitor who performed lots of exciting experiments with the children! Thank you very much to Michael again for coming in!

Check out the video to see all the fun that was had with our budding scientists last week!
