This year we held not one but TWO sports days in our new campus for Active Week.

On Thursday, Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First class had a great day filled with lots fun activities in all areas of the school. They ran races, worked as a team and most importantly had a lot of fun!

On Friday, 2nd Class, 3rd Class, 4th Class and 5th Class enjoyed senior sports day! They had a lot of fun challenging themselves to new games and races and exhibited great team work skills.

Check out this video of both sports days and all the fun we had including an ice-cream treat on Friday for all classes!

Spring in Junior Infants B

The children in Junior Infants B have been very busy this Spring. We have been doing some outdoor lessons now that the weather is brighter and warmer. The children went on a scavenger hunt to find signs of Spring hidden in the yard.

We have also had lots of celebration days in school this March including Book Week, and Seachtain na Gaeilge. The students got a chance to dress up as their favourite character for Book Week, and took part in a parade to show off their costumes. The children also took part in lots of shared reading activities with the older children in the school.

The fun didn’t stop with Book Week, and led us straight into Seachtain na Gaeilge. The children were learning songs as gaeilge, and practicing Irish dancing for the ceili on La Glas. Well done to all the children for their huge efforts to use Gaeilge in the classroom and around the school, and for their fantastic outfits to mark La Glas.

An excellent Spring so far, long may the bright days continue!

Active Slogan

In October we set about coming up with our active slogan!

We were lucky we had so much interest from all classes in the school and it made our decision very difficult.

The committee decided on a slogan that was catchy, easy to remember and summed up our ethos!

Our slogan was created by Asia in 1st Class and goes like this:

“Every Little Bit Can Get us Fit”

It’s a great slogan as it reminds us that we can do a little bit everyday in the journey towards being more active !

Well done Asia!

September in Junior Infants A

We’ve had a great first month in Junior Infants A! All the boys and girls have settled in so well and are learning lots already.

In Literacy we have been doing lots of phonological awareness activities and learning all about syllables, onset and rime and rhyming words. The class are having lots of fun playing all the games.

In maths we have been sorting by different criteria such as size, colour, shape. The class have become very confident when doing these activities.

For Friendship Week 3rd class came to play with the junior infants which was lovely to see. We also had visitors from 5th class come to play and read with the class one morning.

For Aistear time the theme for September was the home corner. The boys and girls enjoyed playing with the kitchen. They are loving building different types of homes and playing together. We have moved onto the supermarket and toy shop now.

.

And finally, we start each day with fine motor activities such as threading, cutting and playdoh.

Supermarket Sweep!

Junior Infants had a busy morning today heading to our local Lidl in Rathmines!

We have been learning all about the Supermarket in Aistear and role-playing supermarket situations so it was great to put our learning to good use today.

We started the week by writing a list for the Supermarket in our Literacy lesson and using our phonics sounds to sound out the words we needed.

We headed off early this morning and remembered to bring our list and our shopping bags!

When we got to the shop we first had a look at some of the things we had been learning about in class – we spotted the baskets, trolleys, self-checkout, till, cashier and the aisles.

Next we set off in our groups, each group had one thing highlighted on their list to find.

After that came the exciting part, we headed up to the tills to pay for our goods!

We put our items on the belt, gave the money to the cashier and received our change and receipt. We made sure to bag up our items to carry back to school.

Luckily, one of the things on our list was chocolate so we all got to enjoy a chocolate treat for all our hard work when we got back to class! 🙂

January in Junior Infants!

January has been a very busy and very fun month for Junior Infants!

Check out some of the things we have been up to:

In January we started Hurling with Coach Jenny. We have loved building these new skills and we might even have some future Dublin players on our hands!

In January our theme for our Aistear was the supermarket and food! We had a lot of fun playing in the role play area and also used it to inspire our writing we have practiced writing shopping lists and here we are writing labels for the food in the supermarket. Check out our amazing phonics work.

We also experienced healthy week this month and we had a lot of fun trying fruits in class and thinking of words to describe them like squishy, slimy, chewy and delicious! We ate pineapple, mango, melon, kiwi, oranges, apples, bananas, grapes, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.

In January we also started a new creative area in Aistear – Junk Art! We have loved used recyclable materials to make our wonderful creations.

This month we also welcomed our first two Mystery Readers! We have absolutely loved the excitement of finding out who will visit to read us a story and we look forward to lots more mystery readers.

What a great month we have had! 🙂

A day out at Glenroe Farm!

Junior and Senior Infants had a wonderful day for their school tour to Glenroe farm. From the double decker bus to feeding goats it was fun from start to finish!

We started off the day bright and early by travelling on the bus to Wicklow. We had lots of fun on the bus singing songs, playing I-Spy and watching the countryside around us.

When we arrived at the farm we had a quick snack with our friends and then we were ready to see the animals!

We were so excited to explore the farm and get to pet and feed all the different animals.

We saw goats, sheep, pigs, guinea pigs, rabbits, horses, alpacas and lots more!

After a lot of fun with the animals it was time to enjoy the playground!

We had a fantastic day and were so lucky to have beautiful weather all day too.

We are already looking forward to next years school tour!
