Class Blog for Senior Infants

November and December Activities

The theme for November was ‘Materials’. In Science, we made parachutes out of paper and plastic and tested which material was better at floating to the ground. In Music, we made some homemade instruments from household materials.

In December, we were very lucky to have some parents visit Senior Infants to do workshops. Alma’s mum taught the children all about Hanukkah. Alma and her mum performed a few songs for the class and everyone got to play with dreidels. It was great fun! Later on in the month, Patrick’s mum visited the class and made some yummy hot chocolate with the children. She also showed the children how to make cookies. Afterwards, the children enjoyed their hot chocolate and cookies. What a treat!

October Activities

In October, we completed some thematic learning on ‘Food’. We learnt how to say certain foods as Gaeilge, completed some apple printing to create a pumpkin patch in Visual Arts and played ‘Restaurants’ in the role-play area. We also read  picture books about food and completed some procedural writing on ‘How to Make Rice Krispie Buns’ in English.

In PE, we explored the gymnastics strand. The children in Senior Infants had great balance walking across the beam!

For the last day of term, we dressed up and played some party games. It was a great end to a busy term.

September Activities in Senior Infants

We had a great first day in Senior Infants. Everyone enjoyed catching up with friends and exploring our new school!

In Visual Arts, we explored the fabric and fibre strand. We made self portraits from scrap materials.

Literacy involved a lot of revision this month. We practiced our letter formation in foam. It was super fun!

At the end of September, we celebrated ‘Friendship Week’. We discussed what it means to be a good friend, enjoyed some extra playtime with our friends and even got to do some buddy reading with third class.

Active Slogan

In October we set about coming up with our active slogan!

We were lucky we had so much interest from all classes in the school and it made our decision very difficult.

The committee decided on a slogan that was catchy, easy to remember and summed up our ethos!

Our slogan was created by Asia in 1st Class and goes like this:

“Every Little Bit Can Get us Fit”

It’s a great slogan as it reminds us that we can do a little bit everyday in the journey towards being more active !

Well done Asia!

Aistear Activities

Senior Infants have had a busy few months! During this time, they have engaged in Aistear.  Have a look below at some of their aistear experiences from this year.

Aistear aims to provide enjoyable and challenging learning experiences through play learning, so that all children can grow and develop as competent and confident learners. Senior Infants have engaged in many types of play including creative, imaginary, small world, and constructive play.

They have also explored themes such as ‘All about Me’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘The Post Office’ through their play. These play experiences have been really fun and engaging!

A day out at Glenroe Farm!

Junior and Senior Infants had a wonderful day for their school tour to Glenroe farm. From the double decker bus to feeding goats it was fun from start to finish!

We started off the day bright and early by travelling on the bus to Wicklow. We had lots of fun on the bus singing songs, playing I-Spy and watching the countryside around us.

When we arrived at the farm we had a quick snack with our friends and then we were ready to see the animals!

We were so excited to explore the farm and get to pet and feed all the different animals.

We saw goats, sheep, pigs, guinea pigs, rabbits, horses, alpacas and lots more!

After a lot of fun with the animals it was time to enjoy the playground!

We had a fantastic day and were so lucky to have beautiful weather all day too.

We are already looking forward to next years school tour!
