Term 2 in Senior Infants A

Senior Infants have had a lot of fun in term 2! We have been so lucky to have Marianne with us for 8 weeks on teaching practice doing lots of exciting things every week!

In March, we had World Book Day. We had a lot of fun dressing up as our favourite book characters. We also had visits from 5th class who did buddy reading with us. We loved listening to our friends reading us stories.

We did amazing science work with Marianne and learned all about the conditions plants need to grow. We then got to grow our own Cress plants! We loved watering our plants everyday and checking their progress.

We also had a lot of fun in March learning Irish dances with Katie for the big Lá Glas Ceilí!

Winter in Senior Infants

It has been a busy winter in Senior Infants!

Before the winter break we had a lot of fun learning about Narrative writing and turning our knowledge of fairy tales into the magical winter show of Goldilocks.

In Aistear we had a lot of fun playing in the Post Office and writing letters to each other!

In PE we got to try Hurling and Football with coach Jenny and coach Teresa and got to practice some new skills!

We moved on to a new topic of Space in January and we have been loving playing in the rocket and learning all about the Solar System in Science and Geography.

In Maths we have been learning about 3D shapes and got to go on a shape hunt around our school!

Autumn in Senior Infants

Senior Infants have had a very busy first half-term with lots of learning and lots of fun!

In Maths we spent time revising our numbers to 10 and moved on to counting up to 20. We revised our addition skills and making number sentences.

We had a lot of fun during Maths Week making our Figure it Out Posters and going on a Maths Trail!

In English we worked on revising our sounds in phonics. We also worked on Recount in writing and wrote recounts about our trip to the roof and the first floor of the school!

In Aistear we learned about homes and food and had lots of fun playing and learning.

Sports Day 2025 / Active Week!

This year we held not one but TWO sports days in our new campus for Active Week.

On Thursday, Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First class had a great day filled with lots fun activities in all areas of the school. They ran races, worked as a team and most importantly had a lot of fun!

On Friday, 2nd Class, 3rd Class, 4th Class and 5th Class enjoyed senior sports day! They had a lot of fun challenging themselves to new games and races and exhibited great team work skills.

Check out this video of both sports days and all the fun we had including an ice-cream treat on Friday for all classes!

November and December Activities

The theme for November was ‘Materials’. In Science, we made parachutes out of paper and plastic and tested which material was better at floating to the ground. In Music, we made some homemade instruments from household materials.

In December, we were very lucky to have some parents visit Senior Infants to do workshops. Alma’s mum taught the children all about Hanukkah. Alma and her mum performed a few songs for the class and everyone got to play with dreidels. It was great fun! Later on in the month, Patrick’s mum visited the class and made some yummy hot chocolate with the children. She also showed the children how to make cookies. Afterwards, the children enjoyed their hot chocolate and cookies. What a treat!

October Activities

In October, we completed some thematic learning on ‘Food’. We learnt how to say certain foods as Gaeilge, completed some apple printing to create a pumpkin patch in Visual Arts and played ‘Restaurants’ in the role-play area. We also read  picture books about food and completed some procedural writing on ‘How to Make Rice Krispie Buns’ in English.

In PE, we explored the gymnastics strand. The children in Senior Infants had great balance walking across the beam!

For the last day of term, we dressed up and played some party games. It was a great end to a busy term.

September Activities in Senior Infants

We had a great first day in Senior Infants. Everyone enjoyed catching up with friends and exploring our new school!

In Visual Arts, we explored the fabric and fibre strand. We made self portraits from scrap materials.

Literacy involved a lot of revision this month. We practiced our letter formation in foam. It was super fun!

At the end of September, we celebrated ‘Friendship Week’. We discussed what it means to be a good friend, enjoyed some extra playtime with our friends and even got to do some buddy reading with third class.

Active Slogan

In October we set about coming up with our active slogan!

We were lucky we had so much interest from all classes in the school and it made our decision very difficult.

The committee decided on a slogan that was catchy, easy to remember and summed up our ethos!

Our slogan was created by Asia in 1st Class and goes like this:

“Every Little Bit Can Get us Fit”

It’s a great slogan as it reminds us that we can do a little bit everyday in the journey towards being more active !

Well done Asia!
