First, Second and Tony’s class were treated to a workshop with the author and illustrator of the book Animal Crackers today, Sarah Webb and Alan Nolan. We had so much fun sharing and learning amazing facts about animals and really enjoyed the penguin draw-a-long. Thank you so much for including us in your Citywide Read, Rathmines Library – best neighbours ever!
What an exciting first day back we had today! We met our new teachers and some new friends and we played in our new yard and classrooms. A huge thank you to everybody who made both the indoor and outdoor spaces happen. The children were so happy in school today!
Junior Infants have been learning the Maths vocabulary ‘full’ and ’empty’. Watch out for the shark 😉
Our fantastic Quilt Maker has completed the quilt in County Cork and it is en route back to us! She said it was her favourite project of 2021. Watch this space!
As part of the Learn Together curriculum, we explore a value a month in the school. The Junior Infants made this lovely video about the value of honesty.
Welcome to our school quilt project! In a year where it has been very hard to come together as a whole school, Maeve came up with this idea as a way to beat the bubbles and bring us together. Every child and adult in the school is decorating a fabric square with a picture of what they love and missed about school. They will then be combined into a patchwork style quilt to display in our school forever. The cotton squares are the colours used in the Educate Together logo.
It’s a highlight of every morning to see who has finished their beautiful square. We will be posting them to the quilt maker shortly.
Cathy organised a huge order of books in lots of different languages. She researched the countries that the children of our school have family in and made sure these languages will be represented in our class libraries. Hurrah!
We had such fun reading Michael Rosen’s classic book.We made sensory maps of the story with swishy swashy grass, squelchy mud, swirling snow, deep, cool water and stumbly twigs. We took advantage of the sunnier weather and drew the bear with chalk in the yard. We’re not scared!
Thank you so much to the DSPCA who visited us virtually to tell us all about taking care of pets. Our favourite pet was the cheeky escape artist hamster!
We have been making the most of Harold’s Cross Park and its lovely playground. We can’t wait to see what Rathmines has to offer and are already dreaming of swimming in Swan Leisure, going to the cinema and making connections with the many, many sports clubs in the area #wellbeing #outdoor learning
