Here is some news from October in 6th Class!
Tag Rugby lessons with Leinster Rugby coach
Every Monday for five weeks, a rugby coach from Leinster Rugby came to teach us how to play tag rugby. His name was Ariel. He was a brilliant teacher! It was lots of fun but it was difficult. We learned that you can only pass sideways and backwards. We had a belt with two tags on our sides. We had 4 teams, 2 teams played at a time and we rotated every 5 minutes. Our lessons were 40 minutes long. We had two lessons in the P.E hall and 3 lessons on roof top yard.

Canal Clean-up
Last Friday, the Hilton Hotel invited us to do a canal cleanup with them. We got equipment like sweeping brushes, litter pickers and hoes. We cleaned from our school all the way to the bridge. Once we had worked for about 45 minutes we back to the Hilton Hotel and they gave us hot chocolate and cookies. Then we ate and chatted for a bit and headed back to the school just in time for hometime.

Maths Week Homework – Crack the Code
During Maths Week we did a “Crack the Code” project for homework. Everybody made a code using maths for homework and showed it to other students in the class and got them to crack their codes. The homework was very fun. Some codes were very hard and I thought they were IMPOSSIBLE. Some of the codes were very decorated and very well made. We put our project in our tables so other people can solve our crack the code. All the codes were all maths related words or sentences.

Maths Week – RTÉ News2Day
During Maths Week, we went to the Engineers Ireland building. An amazing magician, Andrew Jeffrey, was there doing tricks related to maths and it was really fun. RTÉ were filming, taking great shots all over the room. Andrew taught us that patterns can help us to solve equations. He invited various children up on to the stage to help him, including Romi, and he did a poker trick using the little chips. It was AMAZING! Alannah did an interview with RTÉ and she said that if maths is difficult for you, you can use different strategies until you find the right one for you. It was fascinating to see how RTÉ did the filming and how they kept on taking multiple shots until they had the perfect shot. They said: “These maths whizzes are using subtraction, division and multiplication to get the answer they are looking for….”. Then they revealed the answer on a flip chart, it was 67!!!! They pointed the camera at Ruhaan doing the 67! Here is the link to view the RTÉ News2Day feature:

Gaeilge
This month in Gaeilge we’ve learned loads! New verbs, how to introduce ourselves and describe our neighbourhoods. One thing we enjoyed in particular was using finger puppets! We used the puppets to have conversations and we recorded it on the iPads. Once we finished we uploaded them to SeeSaw and watched them.
